Our self-esteem comes from various aspects of our person, including beauty.
Beauty includes physical appearance, but also inner beauty and strength.
These qualities help us to stay happy and confident.
Physical defects can be a source of concern, excessive attention to self-care, unnecessary treatments to improve appearance, and/or social isolation (e.g., staying indoors, avoiding photos, etc.).
In the most extreme cases, a person may develop chronic mental illness such as dysmorphophobia or anxiety and eating disorders.
In less extreme cases, a lack of self-confidence related to physical appearance can lead to low morale and prevent people from enjoying life to the fullest.
1:Working on her confidence in her beauty
Identify the source of your insecurity. Ask yourself why you are not sure of your beauty. In some cases, this question may seem simple because the answer will seem obvious. For example, someone may have made a disparaging remark about one of your features. In other cases, the connection may be more subtle. The media tend to define beauty narrowly, which can make people feel inferior.
There may even be an indirect link to your lack of self-confidence. For example, you may feel anxious because your future seems uncertain. And because you can’t easily relieve or control this anxiety, you focus on other sources of anxiety that are more trivial and that you can control, such as your appearance.
2 Look at yourself in the mirror
There are different cognitive-behavioral techniques that will allow you to believe more in your beauty. These techniques allow you to assess the source of your insecurities, to question your negative opinion of your appearance and to think about ways to perceive your physical appearance in a more positive way. Take a long look at yourself in the mirror.
Concentrate on standing or sitting upright while looking in the mirror to gain as much confidence as possible as you do this exercise.
3:Notice 3 positive things about your appearance
Think about your favorite physical attributes and make a list of them.
Write a sentence with each of these qualities, such as “I have long curly hair. It’s voluminous and shiny, especially when I come out of the barbershop. »
4:Note 3 positive traits
For this exercise, you will also need to recognize the qualities of your personality. Write a sentence with each of these qualities.
For example, you could write “I help others. I volunteer every week for an association and I always call my friends back when they need to talk. »
5:Rank these 6 points in order of importance according to you
Combine your list of physical attributes and personality traits. Rank these qualities, putting the one you think is most important first.
Most people will tend to put their personality traits before their physical traits. This highlights the fact that our self-esteem is influenced more by how we perceive our personality than by how we look. Other people are also more affected by our personality than by our physical appearance.
6:Look at yourself and see what thoughts come to your mind…
When you look in the mirror, you may have certain thoughts. Think about the source of these thoughts. Whose words are they? Are they your own words or someone else’s? Do these words remind you of the words of a relative, a friend, or a bad person?
7:Question the rightness of your thoughts. When you
think of these words, do these descriptions of you seem accurate? Are your hips really that wide? Are you so much taller than others? Is that a bad thing?
8:Shut your negative thoughts
Think about how you would talk to a friend who asked you what you thought of his or her appearance: appreciation, acceptance, and kindness. When you have thoughts about yourself, ask yourself if they are nice and if you would talk to a friend in this way.
Now try to talk to yourself as you would talk to a friend.
9:Talk to each other in a positive way
Look in the mirror to see what you like about yourself. From now on, when you look in the mirror, look at that line first. Repeat to yourself what you like about this physical trait.
This will help you stop focusing on what you perceive as “flaws”. You will now focus on positive attributes. Soon you will notice more and more attributes that you like.
10:Choose your friends wisely
Pay attention to your friends and how you feel in their presence. Surround yourself with people who do not criticize or judge you, as this type of behavior will immediately affect your self-image.
11:Smile a lot
As easy and obvious as it may sound, smiling can reduce stress, even when you force yourself to smile. Smiling with all your teeth may even help you feel better about yourself. People will also see you as an accessible person they can trust.
If someone pays you a compliment, don’t refuse it: accept it! If you are insecure about your appearance, you may be uncomfortable with compliments and your natural reaction may be to reject or minimize the compliment. Make an effort to accept praise. After a while, you will be comfortable and accept compliments without any problems.
For example, if someone pays a compliment on your shirt, you may be inclined to tell them that it’s a shirt someone gave you and that you only wear it because your other clothes are dirty. This would reflect your anxiety about your appearance and may embarrass you and the person who is complimenting you. Instead, just say thank you and take full advantage of the compliment.
13:Be nice to other people
When a person is judgmental, critical, or mean to others, they are generally not perceived as “beautiful”. This kind of person is not a pleasant person to be around. He or she would not make a good friend and is not a source of positivity.
Give up negative comments and have positive things to say to others. You’ll soon find that people, in turn, will be much more positive about you.
